Anthony Harper is delighted to announce the inclusion of Tamara Webster and Alice von Batenburg as 2024 NZ Lawyer Rising Stars, an annual list of the legal profession’s most promising young talent.

Tamara Webster is a Senior Associate at Anthony Harper specialising in the retirement village, aged-care and health sectors, and acts for five of the “big six” retirement village operators. She has assisted several aged-care providers with the introduction of care suites, a hybrid model providing aged-care under an occupation licence, offering an innovative solution to the funding crisis in aged-care.

Drawing on experience in the public health sectors in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, Tamara has been integral in expanding Anthony Harper’s health law practice and has advised clients on policies and SOPs relating to matters such as emergency response procedures and assisted dying.

Tamara is committed to improving diversity and inclusion within the legal sector. She has spoken on a number of panels regarding LGBTQ+ issues and recently spoke at the Rainbow New Zealand Charitable Trust scholarship awards night on the importance of inclusion and the impact of small changes.

Alice von Batenburg is a senior associate in the Banking, Financial Services and Insolvency team, acting for lenders and borrowers on a wide range of financing transactions.

Over the last eight years, Alice has played a significant role in growing the firm’s national banking and finance practice. She has become the firm’s leading individual on consumer credit financing and aircraft financing matters and is personally sought by clients and other partners in the firm for her expertise in this area.

Outside of her client work, Alice plays an important role in mentoring and developing junior lawyers both within and outside of the Banking, Financial Services and Insolvency team.

Managing partner Malcolm Hurley said that both Tamara and Alice are talented young professionals who are renowned as emerging experts in their respective fields.

“Tamara is an integral part of our Retirement Villages team, recognised as the firm’s go-to person for health law advice and resident complaints. She is highly regarded by clients for her ability to understand their objectives and provide practical advice.

“Alice is an important part of the banking practice at Anthony Harper and her focus on delivering positive outcomes for clients has been a real strength for both the practice and the firm. Recognised as a mentor and leader at the firm, Alice is a positive influence on junior colleagues and sought after for advice.”

As an impartial authority in the legal sector, NZ Lawyer conducted an exhaustive research study in October 2023 to identify and showcase the industry’s top performers. NZ Lawyer’s 30+ strong Intelligence Unit determined the winners by following a rigorous process, which included interviewing objective industry professionals, with Tamara and Alice emerging as distinguished contributors to the industry.
